Perfect spot for a dinner date or girls' night! You can get delicious drinks and Prime Rib from Lawry's, but with a more low-key vibe and cute decor.
My only comment is that the whipped horseradish that comes with the prime rib sandwich is too light in flavor. I can barely taste the horseradish, especially against the heavy-hitting prime rib slices & au jus sauce. And I LOVE horseradish. But that's a small burden to bear, in the grand scheme of things. Definitely recommend Side Door for smaller groups or a nice night out. -

We stopped in here because the restaurant we planned to go to had already stopped serving food.
There were only two of us and we got seated at these super cute, big plush chairs with a small table between us. Very cute.
They were playing 80's music, which was super awesome too!
I ordered the Poutine and wasn't sure if I had made the right decision because I usually am disappointed with American Poutine- but it was delicious! My friend got the chicken wings, which I tried and they were good too.
I really liked our server too.
My friend and I have decided to make this a regular place for us. -

I came because I saw their old menu here on Yelp and wasn't aware they had changed it. I wanted to finally try the Wagyu beef everybody is talking about that apparently outmatches any Western breed. But that's one of the things that is not on the menu any longer. So I went for our good old Angus breed. It was pretty good. Maybe not $36 good (which is the price I paid), but maybe $25 good. It came with delicious creamy scalloped potatoes, curly fried onions and herb butter that took it up a notch. When it comes to meat I'm a bit of a purist and would like it to be speaking for itself without need for extra condiments/stuff to make it delicious. I understand the cap is a bit of a lean cut, but I felt it was missing that sizzled, lavish meat flavor. That and the cost-pleasure ratio are the reasons why they don't earn the 5th star in my book.
The cocktail was very elegant and sophisticated.
I had a nice culinary experience. -

Went to Side Door for dinner during a business trip to Chicago. I sat at the bar and started my meal with a cocktail- the angeles. It was awesome and I was really looking forward to dinner being equally good.
Unfortunately, the small plate item I went with was a mistake. The potato gnocchi with duck confit was drowning in gravy and full of small bones. I had to spit out quite a few. The flavor of the dish was good, overall, but the sloppiness of it was unexpected and disappointing.
I ordered the bread pudding with toffee to take home. This is one of my favorite desserts and I was really excited to see it on the menu. Unfortunately again, I wasn't thrilled with my selection. It was sickeningly sweet and bland. I expected a light vanilla flavor to the pudding, but it was basically a sponge for the caramel sauce. I ended up tossing most of it.
Although the bar was dark and a bit dreary, the restaurant itself looks clean and well decorated. The service was okay- the bartender was nice and personable. If I ever went back I would order something different. I really feel like this place had the potential to be better and maybe I chose the wrong things. The cocktail, however, was a home run!! Worth a visit if just for that. -

This is a great big yes. Met a couple of friends here for a weekday lunch. Service was attentive and unobtrusive, food was exceptional. Ordered the knife and fork pastrami sandwich served on a pretzel roll with giardiniera. Came with house chips and added a cup of lobster bisque. Delicious.
Dining room was kind of old school classy without feeling dated and aging. Can't wait to go back.
